Material: 14K yellow gold and platinum, although most of this jewel is in yellow gold, the diamonds are set in platinum. This finds it origin in a much older period (see explanation on silver on gold). - (precious metals)
Diamonds: One old mine brilliant cut diamond with an estimated weight of approx. 0.08 crt. and 34 old mine brilliant cut diamonds with a total estimated weight of approx. 0.34 crt.
Note: All diamond weights, color grades and clarity are approximate since the stones were not removed from their mounts to preserve the integrity of the setting.
Total diamond weight: approx. 0.42 crt.

Extra: The high domed sapphire is what experts call "pain de sucre" (French for "sugarloaf"). A type of cabochon that, in contrary to the normal cabochon, is polished in a way that the top of the stone is really sticking out in a (smooth) point. A sugarloaf was the traditional form, a tall gently-tapering cylinder with a conical top, in which refined sugar was exported from the Caribbean and eastern Brazil from the 17th to 19th centuries.
