COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : Although it does not carry any legible control marks we believe it is of Belgian origin.
STYLE : Art Deco and/or Edwardian
STYLE SPECIFICS : Deco and Edwardian characteristics - This piece carries the characteristics of two distinctive styles from the same era. Abstract motives and geometrical forms are quite typical for the Art Deco period while the fineness of line and lacey aspect of the piece are typical for the Edwardian period. Because both styles ran concurrently, we sometimes, like in this case, notice pieces that carry both influences.
PERIOD : 1920
THEME : Woman's head
MATERIAL : 18K bi-color gold (yellow and white), although most of this jewel is in yellow gold, the diamonds are set in white gold. This finds it origin in a much older period where it was common for diamonds to be set in silver (see explanation on silver on gold).
TECHNIQUE : enamel
EXTRA INFO : The back of the enamel plaque in the center is signed by the maker plus he wrote the city where it was made Limoges. Limoges is a city in France famous for this particular type of enameled jewelry
DIAMONDS : Six rose cut diamonds. We do not have the weight of the diamonds which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cuts.
BIRTHSTONES : Diamond is the birthstone (or month stone) for the month April (common attributions to diamond) WEIGHT : 9.30 gram (5.98 dwt)
SIGNATURE : Saclandie (or Sadlandie), Limoges
HALLMARKS : No trace
CONDITION : Good condition - there is a little scratch on the hair of the portraited lady (visible on the picture) - (our condition scale)
