OBJECT GROUP : combined pendant and brooch
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN : We believe this to be of Dutch origin
STYLE : Victorian
PERIOD : 1870
SOURCE OF INSPIRATION : Mother Nature
THEME : One can't know everything and flower symbolism is one thing we do not know much about.
Perhaps these are real plants but it could also be just the imagination of the goldsmith who made this jewel.
Anybody who could help us on this subject, feel free to educate us. Meanwhile we offer the following link on
Flower symbolism.
MATERIAL : All the gold used in this locket is 14K except the bail which is 18K and French hallmarked. We
think this jewel has been made in the Netherlands and somewhere in its history the bail was replaced.
DIAMONDS : 14 rose cut diamonds.
We do not have the weight of the diamonds which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cuts.
PRECIOUS STONES : onyx
WEIGHT : 26.40 gram (16.98 dwt)
HALLMARKS : see MATERIAL above
CONDITION : Excellent condition - the (original) glass used at the back of the jewel has a chip, we decided to
leave it this way because in our opinion it does not devaluate the value of the piece itself.

SIZE : Width approx. 3.43 cm (1.35 inch)
