Gorgeous neo-Egyptian enameled pharaoh brooch

A very detailed enameled human head in what we have to see as a typical European interpretation of a pharaoh. The pharaoh wears a multi-colored scarf that is hold to his head by a red ribbon that holds a rose cut diamond at his temple . On his forehead we recognize something that looks like a blue snake. Around the neck the pharaoh is wearing a collar set with another four rose cut diamonds. The quality of the enamel is extra-ordinary, the face of the pharaoh is really beautifully and realistically done.

Although we are not sure whether this beautiful brooch is made during the second or third Neo-Egyptian period, we would lean to the second period (circa 1870). There were three main Neo-Egyptian revivals since 1800. The first was caused by Napoleon's journey to Egypt (circa 1805-1810). The second revival was caused by the opening of the Suez Canal (circa 1870) and the third was initiated by the discovery of King Tut-Ankh-Amun’s tomb (circa 1922).
