This is a shiny early 19th century 'Saint-Esprit' cross pendant (circa 1820 - we would not be surprised if it was even older). Although it carries no legible control marks we are pretty sure that it is French as this is a typical regional French jewel. The pendant is entirely made of 18K yellow gold and has the shape of a suspended Holy Dove (Saint-Esprit means in French Holy Ghost). It is entirely ornamented with shiny white strass stones. It holds in its beak a vegetal branch, ornamented with red, green and blue strass stones. The Holy Dove is suspended from a kind of crown-shaped ornament, also decorated with white strass stones. We believe the central big strass stone, together with a few others were set at a later date. We believe the hook at the back was soldered to fix it at a later date.
