If you are looking for something really special then take a look at this gorgeous cross pendant.
It has been made in the mid 18th century (around 1750) and its in very good condition especially for its age.
The pendant, entirely made of gold, has been set with 14 antique table rose cut diamonds. They are set on foil,
which is very common for that time. Notice also the beautiful craftmanship. Nicely engraved flower and leaf
patterns make the pendant complete.
OBJECT GROUP: pendants
COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: France
STYLE : Pre Victorian
PERIOD : 1750 - 1790
MATERIAL : 18K red gold
STONES : 14 foiled rose cut diamonds of various sizes.
We don 't have the weight of this diamond, which is normal in our trade when it comes to rose cuts.
WEIGHT : 8,60 gram (8,60 dwt)
HALLMARKS: There is a hallmark resembling the horse head used after 1838 but not exactly. In fact it
is rather hard to see what sort of animal's head it should present. The French hallmarks in use after the French
revolution (ca. 1798) are well documentated while those used before the revolution are poorly documentated. In our
library we have many books with all sorts of hallmarks but the French are the most difficult to find back because
before the revolution every city had its own specific marks.
Although the shape of the cross and hallmarks used are typically French pre-revolution it is not possible
(only perhaps by someone more experienced then me) to date it exactly.
CONDITION : acceptable condition
REMARKS : On the back there are two hooks, you can either put a very thin necklace through them or it can be sewn on the clothes like they did in the old days
SIZE : 6,70 cm (2,64 inch) by 3,10 cm (1,22 inch)
