Vintage Ruby and Diamond Floral Clip Earrings in 18K Gold, circa 1960

With their warm ruby cabochons, bright diamond accents and cheerful floral form, these clip earrings are pure ear candy. Their balanced circular clusters have the confident elegance of the Fifties, creating a colourful, expressive pair that brings a touch of joyful glamour to the wearer.

Style: Fifties, in a floral-cluster composition combining rounded ruby cabochons with refined diamond-set accents.

Period: circa 1960

Material: 18K yellow gold, touchstone tested, with upright diamond-set cups in 18K white gold.

Technique: The diamonds are set both in the yellow gold border surrounding each floral cluster and in upright 18K white gold cup settings at the notches of its outline.

Additional information: Fitted with hinged clip fittings.

Diamonds: 72 round brilliant-cut diamonds, with an estimated total weight of 1.44 carats, F–H colour and VS clarity.

To preserve the integrity of the jewel and its settings, the diamonds were assessed while mounted and were not removed for weighing or grading; stated weights, colour and clarity are therefore approximate.

We individually screened every diamond in these clip earrings using the EXA Natural Diamond Detector developed by Magilabs; each test returned a natural-diamond result.

Gemstones: 14 natural ruby cabochons of a warm, richly saturated red, with an estimated total weight of 12.00 carats. No indications of treatment were observed during our examination.

To preserve the integrity of the jewel and its settings, the rubies were assessed while mounted and were not removed for weighing; the stated weight is therefore approximate.

Traditional gemstone associations: Ruby, the traditional birthstone for July, symbolises passion and vitality; diamonds, associated with April, symbolise enduring love.
