An Architectural Emerald and Diamond Statement Ring, c. 1955

This substantial platinum ring, made around 1955 in the Art Deco style, is a robust statement piece with a distinctly architectural presence. A natural emerald of approximately 2.58 ct forms the centre, framed by two old mine brilliant cut diamonds and 28 baguette cut diamonds totalling approximately 2.35 ct. The vivid green emerald and crisp diamond geometry create a powerful contrast, while the older brilliant cuts bring a subtle softness to the bold composition.

The Art Deco period had ended only about twenty years earlier, so its forms remained a strong source of inspiration. Some 1950s jewels can be difficult to distinguish from Art Deco at first sight, especially when made in platinum or with geometric design.

Precious stones
One natural emerald, octagonal step cut, weighing approximately 2.58 ct and measuring approximately 8.30 × 7.30 × 5.63 mm. The stone is green and transparent, with indications of minor oil in fissures and cavities.

Accompanied by gemstone report no. 1830018567 AN, dated 10 July 2026. The report can be viewed among the photographs.

The emerald was graded as mounting permits. It was not removed from its setting in order to protect the integrity of both the stone and the setting. Its stated weight and measurements are therefore approximate.

Gemstones are often treated to improve their colour or clarity. Unless otherwise stated, stones in this piece have not been tested for treatments beyond those specified in the accompanying report.

Hallmarks
The country of origin of the ring cannot be determined from its hallmarks. It bears a Dutch re-assay mark for platinum, in use since 1953. This mark was applied to an item submitted to the assay office in its completed state.
