Platinum Lace and Old Cut Diamonds in an Edwardian Ring, circa 1915

Dating from around 1915, this Edwardian diamond ring combines the warmth of yellow gold with a delicate platinum-set openwork panel. An old European cut diamond forms the centre, surrounded by 64 rose cut diamonds and senailles arranged across the lace-like geometric design. Fine millegrain edges heighten the airy effect, while the pierced shoulders and small diamond accents lend the ring an elegant lightness typical of the period.

Style
Edwardian jewellery - This style refers to jewellery from circa 1901 to 1915. Typical features include delicate platinum lacework set with diamonds and pearls, often finished with millegrain to create a light and luminous effect. Characteristic motifs include garlands, bows, floral wreaths, tassels, ribbon motifs and lace-like openwork. The style was shaped by the reign of King Edward VII, Belle Époque taste, eighteenth-century French Rococo and advances in platinum working and diamond cutting.
