Belle Époque to Art Deco Pearl, Ruby and Diamond Ring, circa 1920

Dating from circa 1920, this ring combines the refined openwork of Belle Époque jewellery with the clearer geometry of early Art Deco. Its cultured pearl is encircled by vivid synthetic rubies, while senaille-cut diamonds add restrained sparkle throughout the design. The result is a distinctive period ring with balanced colour and fine detail.

Condition: Very good condition with light wear consistent with age. No repairs are known.

Country of origin: Unknown.

Style: Transitional Belle Époque to Art Deco , combining the scrolling, millegrain-finished tracery of the earlier style with the balanced geometry and calibrated colour accents associated with early Art Deco jewellery.

Period: Circa 1920.

Material: 18K yellow gold, touchstone tested, with a thin white metal layer over the diamond-set areas. Because this layer is exceptionally thin, it was not separately tested and may be either white gold or platinum.

Technique: Pierced openwork with millegrain-finished settings.

Diamonds: 24 senaille-cut diamonds. We individually screened every diamond in this ring using the EXA Natural Diamond Detector developed by Magilabs; each test returned a natural-diamond result.

Senaille-cut diamonds are traditionally described by number rather than by estimated weight, colour or clarity. Their irregular proportions make reliable weight estimation and standard grading impracticable while mounted.

Gemstones: One round cultured pearl, encircled by 12 calibré-cut synthetic rubies. Synthetic ruby was already available to jewellers before this ring was made, making its presence historically compatible with a circa 1920 date.

Traditional gemstone associations: Pearl is traditionally associated with June, ruby with July and diamond with April.

Hallmarks: No hallmarks are present.
