Dating from around 1890, this late Victorian ring centres on a pearl encircled by eight old brilliant cut diamonds, together weighing approximately 2.00 ct. The yellow gold top, red gold shank and partly legible 1890 engraving inside the band give the jewel an intriguing history, possibly pointing to a later marriage of elements. With its raised cluster and soft contrast between pearl and diamond, it remains a charming survivor of late nineteenth century sentiment.

Condition:
good condition. The top of the ring is made in yellow gold, while the shank is made in red gold. This difference may indicate that the ring is a so-called marriage, possibly created by soldering an earlier earring element onto an existing ring.

Style
Late-Victorian - Victorian decorative arts refers to the style of decorative arts during the Victorian era. The Victorian era is known for its eclectic revival and interpretation of historic styles and the introduction of cross-cultural influences from
the middle east and Asia in furniture, fittings, and Interior decoration.
Victorian design is widely viewed as having indulged in a regrettable excess of ornament. The Arts and Crafts movement, the aesthetic movement, Anglo-Japanese style, and Art Nouveau style have their beginnings in the late Victorian era.
