A small circular band, generally referring to one worn on the finger, but also including other types of rings worn for personal adornment or used functionally. Rings have been worn by the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans, and have been continuously worn ever since in all civilizations.

They have been made of gold, silver, platinum, and other metals, as well as coral, jet, tortoise shell, jade, amber, etc. and decorated with gemstones, cameos, medallions, etc., as well as engraving and enamelling.
