An ornament, of various styles, worn on the forehead, usually suspended from a head ornament and often being a gold pendant set with gemstones.
Such ornaments were worn by women of certain primitive civilizations, e.g. of tribes in Uzbekistan, an ancient region of present-day USSR, c. 1750-70, and of tribes of pre-Columbian Indians in America, and by women in India. They have also been worn during the Renaissance and later, until the modern times, by ladies in evening dress as a form of exotic jewelry.
