Jaipur jewelry

Articles of jewelry made in Jaipur (formerly called Jeypore), a state in north-west India founded in the 12th century and under Mughal supremacy in the 16th/17th centuries, and since 1929 joined into the state of Rajasthan (formerly called Rajputana).

The articles are made of gold and include flexible collars, necklaces composed of many suspended pendants, brooches with a suspended pendant, and enamelled bangles. The gold pendants and brooches are usually decorated on the front with diamonds (generally unfaceted polished table cut stones in closed settings) and on the back are traditionally decorated with floral designs in champlevé enamel, renowned for the high quality of the translucent red enamel, often with details in green, white, and blue. Similar enamelling was also done in Delhi and is often indistinguishable.
